2015 visit from Gillian Triggs, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission

Children in immigration detention

HOSTED BY MELBOURNE REFUGEE STUDIES PROGRAM

In April 2015 the President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, Gillian Triggs, was invited to lead an interdisciplinary round table workshop focusing on the recommendations outlined in the report The Forgotten Children: National Inquiry into Children into Immigration Detention (external link) which was attended by thirty academics from across the University. This was followed by a University wide lecture on the same issue. Both the workshop and the larger very well attended lecture allowed for an extensive discussion of future research directions on this crucially important issue.
